Common or Ruddy Darter ? .... I think the latter due to its black legs

This hand held image was taken with my 300mm F4 + 1.4 Teleconverter at a distance of approximately three meters.

When disturbed this Dragonfly kept on returning to exactly the same position on the walkway and I liked the way that the texture of the wood was off-set by the hard, brightness and geometry of the chicken wire.

p.s. - A friend tells me that it is indeed a Ruddy Darter.

  1. Hi John, it is a Ruddy Darter, they have more of a tapered body than Common Darters.
